Dutch Cousins 2021 Gathering – September 24-27, 2021 – Kentucky State University Harold R. Benson Farm
We’ve had some replies to our Dutch Cousins 2020-2021 President, Tamara Fulkerson’s request to please respond as we need a preliminary count for reservations. This is needed by Feb. 8. So far, about 50% of the replies plan to attend.

Of course, a Covid flare-up could change everyone’s plans, but perhaps you’re optimistic like Sharon & me that the vaccines will allow us room to travel and enjoy one another again. So, please, reply and give us your (hopeful) plans.

Carol Rittscher sent:I came upon your site when I was trying to do some research I could not do in person in Harrodsburg this past fall due to KY discouraging residents of states with high covid numbers from entering.

I am hoping someone in your group might be able to lead me to the information I seek. My
g-g-g grandmother was Ann Westerfield – daughter of James Cozine Westerfield &
(Catherine Sortore)
son of James Jacobus Westerfield &
(Phoebe Cozine)
son of Jacobus Westerfield/Westervelt &
(Maria Demaree)
Ann first married Peter VanArsdall, then Isaac VanArsdall (my g-g-g grandfather), then Irwin Moore. I have found when she married both VanArsdall men, but cannot find birth or death dates, or any other information for either one.

A narrative I read in the archived Stanwood, Cedar County, Iowa newspaper when my g-g grandmother died in 1953 was that the family, including 7 daughters (her being one of them) planned to move from Mercer County by covered wagon to Missouri, but Isaac died right before the start of the trip. A driver was hired. The VanArsdall females didn’t stay long in Missouri, but headed to Keokuk, Lee County, Iowa, where Ann had relatives.

If anyone in your group happens to be descendants of either Ann & Isaac or Ann & Peter, could you possibly have them get in touch with me? I would certainly like to make some progress in getting information.

I have undocumented ideas about Carol Rittscher and her Vanarsdalls. Some undocumented trees indicate that Peter and Isaac’s parents were Cornelius C. Vanarsdall and Cynthia Vandivier. I have wondered for a while if Cornelius C’s father was my Christopher Vanarsdall.

Christopher was born around 1740 in New Jersey and grew up in Somerset County (per his Rev. Pension request). He had unnamed children who lived in Mercer County, Kentucky (pension request). His daughter, Anne, married Aaron LaGrange in Mercer County, Kentucky in 1794. A Christopher Vanosdallen signed the bond for Cornelius’ first marriage to Mary Vanderipe in 1797.

While I dont mind sharing I think its important to remind your readers to acknowledge the book and author as well it does have a copyrite. Additionally I will add the following. Joseph Vanansdale Tilford was the slave of ABC Vanarsdale. The book can be purchased at Amazon for $19.99

Date: January 13, 2021 at 7:57:36 AM CSTHi Carolyn, I am a genealogist who has been doing research some 20 years. I have been working on the Peter Bercaw born 1753 family for now about a year. Redding Bercaw was married to my great great grandmother and the subject of several “bad” family trees on Ancestry. I have long sense solved that family history. It turns out Redding grandfather was Joshua Bercaw, son of Peter Bercaw born 1753. Im writing to you because your name shows up on many documents on the Bercaw family including several Findagraves. Of course, the question now is do I have the correct person.
If you are I noticed you have on Ancestry shown Martha Bercaw born 1813 in Adams County, Pa., as the daughter of Peter Bercaw born 1782 and Margaret Brinkerhoff. I have not found any records to confirm that. She married James O Forbes in 1834 in Sandusky not far from where Peter Bercaw #3 and William Bercaw born 1785-. My work is all hard copy and willing to share my key documents I have on the Bercaw family. I am currently working on a report that includes Martha Bercaw Forbes.

It was actually the findagrave #115353801 Peter Bercaw #2 which list Martha Bercaw Forbes as his daughter. That currently reflects what I have in my work. My work also gives Peter #2 only one wife as Elizabeth Peters married Peter Bercaw born 1753 supported by news artcles in Adams County.

Editors’ note: A newsletter recipient complained that our newsletters were going into her Promotions folder (Gmail) instead of her inbox. The Promotions folder commonly catches spam and unwanted emails. She asked how we could change their destination. From what I could find, the solution rests with the recipient. The following is from a Google Help dialog. I haven’t tried it yet myself.How can keep emails from going into promotion instead of my inbox?
The surest and quickest way to customize it to your liking would be by creating a filter. Sign into your account from a desktop browser and open one such email from that sender, click on the 3-dots (more) menu at the right side, click on “Filter messages like this”, click on Create filter, Categorize as <>.
You can also apply the filter to other matching messages. This overrides the default Gmail classification to place messages from that sender to where you specify it to be.
