Save the date!
| Greetings Dutch Cousins, We have an important announcement from the Dutch Cousins of Kentucky (DCKY) board. We will be holding the 2026 DCKY Gathering on Friday, September 11 and Saturday, September 12 at the Kentucky State University Benson Farm facility outside of Frankfort, Kentucky. This was the site of the 2022 and 2019 Gatherings. (This is based on an email agreement. A contract still has to be signed.) We are still in the planning stages for the entire weekend. We plan to hold Sunday services at the Old Mud Meeting House outside Harrodsburg. This weekend coincides with the Painted Stone Massacre Reenactment (Painted Stone Settlers) and we might do a Saturday trip for that. DCKY attended this event in 2017. I would love to see a tour of the Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill based on our Dutch ancestors’ involvement with the Shakers. Watch for future details, especially on hotel rooms. We are getting blocks set aside at the Frankfort Hampton and Holiday Inn Express, both off highway 127. We hope to see as many cousins as possible in 2026. Sincerely Paul Gregory DCKY President |

Message Body: I’m contacting you because I’ve found citations to Westerfield family correspondence (including a “1827 Sortore letter”) referenced in regional genealogical write-ups and some newsletters. I’m especially interested in the letter from James C. Westerfield to Zebulon Sortore dated Feb. 3, 1827 (Mercer Co., KY). Could you tell me whether your group holds: • a scanned copy or full transcription of that letter, or • contact information for the contributor who shared the material? If there’s a permissions process or a copying fee, I’m happy to comply. Any guidance or a referral would be greatly appreciated. |
Don’t forget to gather up your items for the Silent Auction for the Next Gathering. Brenda Snider |
