Heritage Displays

One of the great happenings at the Gathering of the Dutch Cousins of Kentucky is the sharing of our family histories. One of the great ways to tell about your family is through the Heritage Displays.

The Heritage displays are probably one of the most personal activities at the Dutch Cousins Gathering. They provide a visual history. Some provide research material for you to peruse. Some are just fun and unique; there are no set rules on how you do your table.

Everyone who enters will receive a certificate, and a panel of judges will choose the Best Display 2026 award. The First Place Award is a very special surprise this year and we hope to have lots of participation. The table size is about 6 feet by 1½ feet.  Space is always limited, so your display needs to be:
Freestanding
Focused
Concise
Think Vertical
Handouts Are Always A Plus
See examples of previous displays on the Dutch Cousins webpage or in the photo above.

Table set up begins Friday, Sept. 11th at 8:00 a.m.
Takedown starts at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept 12th and ends by 5:00 p.m.

Memorials of our Dutch Cousins

We would like to remember recently deceased family and friends of the Dutch Cousins by providing an honored table display of photos or writings about them. The table will be situated by our Family History Displays at the Gathering. All members are invited to participate and bring a special note, photo, or appropriate memorial of the deceased person.  Your loved one’s photo or remembrance will be situated on our Memorial table.

WANTED: I am in search of a copy of an out-of-print, limited printing book. If by chance you are clearing a bookcase and have a copy you would like to part with I would love to hear from you. Maybe you could bring it to the 2026 Gathering in September.
The book is by fellow Dutch Cousin Larry Michael Voreis and is titled Our Low Dutch Heritage: tracing the western migration of the Van Voorhees family of New Netherlands to New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana, and including the history of the Low Dutch settlement of Conewago…
The copy I have seen in the Kentucky Historical Society research library has a green binding.
You can reach me at Paul Gregory, 1284 Finnell Pike, Georgetown, KY, 40324   Phone (502) 642-7577  Email paulgregory40504@gmail.com

To whom it may concern,

I am doing some genealogical research, and I have found dutchcousins.org to be a wonderful source of information. It’s provided me with numerous leads and fascinating historical context. I applaud all the work you have done.

One of the more interesting things I’ve come across is a partial list in the June 2107 newsletter of those who died in the Long Run Massacre on September 13, 1781. It includes Leah Demaree, who is my 8x-great-grandmother. If possible, I would love to correspond with the person who wrote the list. It appears to be another of Leah Demaree’s descendants, Carolyn Leonard. Is it possible to put me in contact with her?

Thank you so much for all you are doing and your consideration of my request.
Best, Ben O’Connell
