Dutch Cousins President Paul Gregory’s Message for the Gathering
| Greetings Dutch Cousins Just a few days until the Dutch Cousins of Kentucky Gathering 2026. Things have (and are) taking shape. On Friday, September 11, Vince Akers and Bryan Schuck will be enlightening us on DNA case studies they have encountered to help us with our research. After dinner Eddie Price will give his new presentation “Christmas in the Colonies.” On Saturday, September 12 in the morning former Kentucky Genealogy Society president and Lexington librarian Johnna Waldon will be presenting on Cemetery Iconography. In the afternoon, one of our 2022 presenters, Andre Faul will be returning to give updates on his family’s Riverside Farm. After dinner Woodford County librarian and former head librarian for SAR and the Kentucky History Center Cheri Daniels will present on the Draper Manuscripts and some of the Dutch connections found in those papers. Sunday, September 13 we will meet up at the Old Mud Meetinghouse for a Sunday service at 10:00am. Retired Orthodox Presbyterian Minister Rev. Glenn Ferrell will lead our service with a nod to the historic traditions of our Dutch ancestors. Services are open to the public and start at 10:00 On Monday, September 14 the staff of the Harrodsburg Historical Society have graciously agreed to come in on their day off for our group to research. Doors open at 10:00am. This library holds a WONDERFUL Dutch repository created by members of our group. Also, on Saturday we will be taking “Family Name Group” photos and the big Gathering group photo so wear or bring your t-shirt. We will have a Dutch Cousins of Kentucky business meeting in the afternoon to take care of any business needs for the next two years. We will hopefully pick a date and location for the Dutch Cousins of Kentucky 2028 Gathering! The group will elect officers at that time. If you are interested in being on the ballot, please let president Paul Gregory know (paulgregory40504@gmail.com). As of this writing we have the following openings for certain: Secretary, Newsletter Editor, Silent Auction Coordinator, and Webmaster. Over the weekend the board and interested parties will be discussing how to create an umbrella to cover the groups promotions. We will be looking for ways to not only get information out to members, such as our current newsletter and social media platforms, but also to reach out to potential “New Cousins.” Even if you don’t want to serve, if you have knowledge or experience with social media, marketing, group organization, or any relevant topic, PLEASE yank on Paul’s shirt sleeve and talk to me.
